Distributor Fabrication Procedure for
Crane Resistoflex TRC, CB, CTH, SBT, and CPB Hoses

1.0 PURPOSE

To provide written instructions to fabricating distributors for the proper assembly of Crane Resistoflex hose products.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure covers TRC, CB, CTH, SBT, and CPB hoses in sizes 1/2" - 2".

3.0 PROCEDURE

3.1 Before proceeding, operators should be able to read and thoroughly understand the following requirements. This document should also be made a part of your controlled document system.

3.2 Choose the appropriate bulk hose, collars, and fittings. Measure and mark the correct length of hose by subtracting the cut length factor for each fitting per HOSE-TRC print, HOSE-CB print, HOSE-CTH print, HOSE-SBT print, or HOSE-CPB print from the hose total length. (Example: The cut length hose for 1" TRC hose 10' long, male NPTF x male Camlock 120" - 2.250" - 1.750" = 116" of cut hose). If fabricating CB, CTH, SBT, or CPB hose be sure the ends of the hose are wrapped with tape to secure the braid before cutting. The ends of the hose are to be cut straight and the hose must be free of debris. If fabricating TRC hose, leave plastic wrap on hose, except under crimp collars. NOTE: All "drops" must be retagged with part number. CB hose and CTH hose can not be visually identified if mixed. CB hose placed in chlorine service will result in failures. CTH collars are identified with a single groove in the O.D. Fittings are stamped with an "M".

3.2.1 All TRC hoses are to be electrically connected by means of the wire contained within the hose, the wire shall be bent over the end of the hose and against the outside diameter of the hose. The wire shall extend along the length of the hose approximately ½", so that contact is made with the collar when crimped. Before installing the crimp collar, check for wire continuity with an ohmmeter. After final hose assembly check for continuity from fitting to fitting.

3.3 Place a collar on each end of the hose leaving room for the lip of the fitting. For SBT hose, remove tape before assembling collar. SBT collars are threaded and should be screwed into position. Insert a fitting on each end of the hose, being sure the fitting is snug against the collar. If applicable, cut kink guard or shrink wrap and assemble over hose. A kink guard or shrink wrap is required for CTH hose. Spiral guard is standard.

3.4 Choose the appropriate die set per Table 1. Dies other than Resistoflex dies may be used as long as the appropriate crimp length and diameter is achieved. Set crimper to achieve correct crimp diameter.

3.5 Place hose in crimp machine. Crimp collar per Table 1.

3.6 Check the OD of the collar. NOTE: All measuring instruments and gauge controls shall be of professional quality and calibrated and maintained on a calibration schedule.

3.7 Repeat steps 3.4 - 3.6 to crimp the other end of the hose.

3.8 Determine the proof pressure per HOSE-TRC print, HOSE-CB print, HOSE-CTH print, HOSE-SBT print, HOSE-CPB print. NOTE: Hose shall be tested first with clean water at proof pressure and then at working pressure with air under water.

3.9 Test for 60 seconds. If leak appears, mark hose at leak.

3.10 If hose passes, mark with blue dot for hydro test and yellow dot for air under water test, or other appropriate means. If hose leaks, cut hose at mark. CTH hoses must be dried before delivery to the customer.

3.11 Crimp accessory collars as necessary to provide tight fit on hoses.

3.12 Check the length of hose assembly.

3.13 Attach warning tag and protective covers to hose assembly.

3.14 Complete Inspection Sheet.
