E-Series Expansion Joints

Resistoflex developed E-Series Expansion Joints to provide certain customers who prefer the design element of this type of joint with the superior Resistoflex bellows.

The easiest difference to see are the limit cables instead of limit bolts on R-Series joints. Cables provide for a compact installation with no protruding bolt ends. They also allow for greater lateral and angular misalignment. They are also permanently installed and cannot be accidentally misadjusted.

These same benefits come with certain trade-offs. It is possible to install the joint where lateral misalignments exceed the allowable limit. They also provide no resistance to nor little indication of rotational forces which can lead to joint failure. Additionally, the stainless steel aircraft cables can degrade, especially in coastal and corrosive environments.

T-bands are the other main difference between an R-Series and E-Series joint. T-bands act as primarily as a travel limiter, helping to protect the joint from overcompression and angular deflection. Some believe they serve to safeguard the vulnerable bellows, however, they are not designed to replace safeguarding.
